How to fix the broken bits

Things you can try if things don't go to plan

flash_key.sh crashes with a PIPE error [fixed in RC3]
GLX doesn't work [fixed in RC3]
my key becomes corrupted almost immediately [fixed in RC3]
I get "tar" errors while installing the key, then the key won't boot
When installing the key, the dialog boxes don't show the partition size

flash_key.sh

Some people are experiencing a problem with the installer (flash_key,sh) where it throws an error while erashing their flash key. This has been fixed and an alternative version of flash_key.sh can be downloaded from this site. Please see the howto for more detail.

GLX

Assuming your graphics card has "acceleration" and is capable of running in GLX mode, you need to add a file to your key in the following directory;

/usr/lib/modules/extensions

The file is called libglx.a and can be downloaded here. Assuming you're booted from the key and are running firefox , click on the link and select save (to your home directory) , start a shell session and type;

cp /root/libglx.a /usr/lib/modules/extensions

# Then reboot .. (or at least restart X, Ctrl-X-Backspace)

# To test;
glxinfo
glxgears

Corruption

Unless you have a faulty key or you've discovered a new issue, you probably have a large key and you've created a partition larger than 256Mb as your ROOT filesystem. As advertised, FlashLinux is designed to run on 256Mb keys. However (!) if you would like to experiment with a larger filesystem, download the new initrd and try this;

# assuming you're booted off the CD and have the key inserted
# and assuming you've completed a flash_key.sh
# download the new initrd to your home directory (as root)
mount /dev/<boot device> /boot
# eg; mount /dev/sda1 /boot
cp init* /boot
umount /boot
# Now, reboot .. hopefully this fixes the problem.

"tar" errors

We've seen that here, it seems to happen sometimes if you've tried an install and failed, then tried again with an updated flash_key.sh without rebooting. Try a reboot, download the new flash_key.sh and run through it cleanly - that seems to fix it.

Partition sizes missing

This is a bug in the dialog boz handler "zenity". If you see a partition listed "without" a size, please quit the installer and re-run .. try clicking through the options a little more slowly. If you continue through after seeing a missing partition size, expect problems ...
